COVID-19 update

Please note that COVID-19 restrictions are currently in place at Icon Cancer Centre. One support person is permitted, who must be aged over 16 years old and fully vaccinated for COVID-19, and patients and staff are required to wear face masks at all times.

Our centre remains open for all patient treatments and it is important that patients continue with their scheduled visits. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding the current restrictions.

Icon Cancer Centre Wahroonga has proudly provided the latest in radiation therapy technology and techniques in a friendly and supportive environment since opening in 1976. Located on-site at Sydney Adventist Hospital, the centre offers cutting-edge radiation therapy treatment for all cancer types, delivered by an experienced team who are dedicated to ensuring patients and their loved ones receive support and exceptional care every step of the way.

In 2021, Icon Wahroonga, in partnership with Sydney Adventist Hospital’s Integrated Cancer Centre, celebrated three years of achieving the best overall results of outpatient cancer treatment facilities in New South Wales in the Outpatient Cancer Clinics Survey.

By car

There is some allocated parking on Level 2 of P1 for Icon patients in the main hospital parking building. There is plenty of parking available in the rest of the carpark that can be validated and free for patients. For further information please visit the SAN website.

By public transport

Sydney Adventist Hospital has a bus stop within the hospital grounds which services a bus to the areas Wahroonga, South Turramurra, Thornleigh, Normanhurst and Hornsby. For specific information on public transport options, please visit Transport NSW or phone 131 500.

Radiation oncology

  • Precise radiation therapy treatment for all cancer types using a state-of-the-art Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator
  • Adaptive Therapy using Ethos – An advanced technique which uses the latest in radiation therapy technology to adapt radiation treatment each day to changes in the shape and size of the targeted cancer and daily natural movements in surrounding healthy organs
  • Brachytherapy – Internal radiation therapy where a radioactive source is placed beside or inside a tumour to deliver radiation to small areas over a period of time
  • Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH) – A technique for breast cancer patients that reduces the potential impact of radiation on the heart
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) – A technique that utilises advanced imaging equipment and computer software (including MRI, CT and x-ray) to precisely target a tumour with radiation beams
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) – A technique that delivers high dose radiation therapy to cancerous tumours, while limiting the impact of radiation on healthy surrounding tissue
  • Skin Brachytherapy – A non-invasive radiation therapy treatment for early non-melanoma skin cancer
  • Stereotactic Radiation Therapy – An advanced technique that delivers pinpoint precise radiation therapy to treat small tumours with well-defined edges, including tumours that have spread from a primary cancer
  • Volumetric Modulated Radiation Therapy (VMAT) – A technique that delivers radiation therapy beams in a series of arcs or angles by a rotating machine to allow for greater access to a cancerous tumour

Skin cancer clinic

  • Skin cancer screening and treatment including full body and spot checks, and total body mole mapping services to ensure an early, accurate diagnosis of skin cancer
  • Service includes ongoing monitoring of your skin, on-site radiation therapy treatment as a non-surgical option and rapid access to co-located surgical services
