Telehealth tips for patients

Getting the most out of your telehealth appointment

Having a telehealth appointment with your doctor is a different experience to an appointment in person and it may take a little time to get used to.

If you haven’t had a telehealth appointment before, here are some things you can do to help make sure you get the most out of your appointment.

Find a good location for your appointment

  • Find a spot on your home that has good, reliable internet access. Ideally it should be a quiet location with minimal background noise or distractions.

  • Consider your privacy and comfort. You may want to find a private, comfortable location where you will not be disturbed.

Preparing for your appointment

Before you start your appointment, tell others in your home that you are having a telehealth appointment so that they do not disturb you.

If you have young children, ask someone to supervise them during your appointment. If this is not possible, set up an activity to occupy them.

Turn off your television, radio or turn other devices to silent so you won’t be distracted.

Make sure the device you are using is well charged. Keep a charger close by in case.

Ensure you have all the necessary medical information or notes about what you want to discuss with your doctor close by.
