What is RapidArc Dynamic?

RapidArc Dynamic (RAD) is an advanced type of radiotherapy that delivers highly precise, personalised treatment. As the treatment machine completes one smooth rotation around the body, it adjusts the radiation beam in real time. This allows clinicians to accurately target the tumour while reducing radiation to the surrounding healthy tissues.

The benefits

RAD helps our team create treatment plans up to 70% faster, meaning patients can start treatment sooner. It can also reduce radiation exposure to nearby healthy organs by up to 50%, supporting safer, more accurate treatment with the potential for fewer side effects. Because treatment is delivered in a single continuous arc, sessions may also be quicker and more comfortable.

How it works

Traditional radiotherapy often uses multiple arcs or beam arrangements to shape treatment around the tumour. RAD streamlines this by using advanced beam-shaping technology and real-time adjustments throughout one smooth rotation. As the machine moves, the beam’s intensity, shape and angle change continuously, ensuring the dose reaches the planned target with exceptional accuracy.

Eligibility

RAD can be appropriate for many people receiving external beam radiotherapy, particularly when tumours are close to organs that need extra protection. Your oncologist will review your diagnosis, imaging and clinical needs to determine whether this approach is right for you.
