When you’re facing cancer, every moment matters. That’s why we believe you deserve clear, honest information about how quickly you can access radiotherapy, what it will cost, and the quality of care you can expect.
At Icon Cancer Centre, we’re leading the way by publishing real radiotherapy access data, so patients, families and referring clinicians can make informed decisions with confidence.
Faster access to radiotherapy, backed by real data
We are the first, and only, cancer care provider in Australia to publicly share radiotherapy start time data that is updated monthly.
This means you can clearly see:
How quickly patients are seen for their first radiation oncology consultation
How soon treatment typically starts once you’re ready for care
What level of care and experience patients consistently report
Because transparency empowers better decisions.

When you’re referred to Icon Cancer Centre, we act quickly. Your initial consultation is the first appointment you’ll have with one of our experienced radiation oncologists, where we review your referral, discuss your diagnosis, and begin planning the right care pathway for you.
This consultation typically occurs within days, helping ensure you receive timely answers and can move forward with confidence.

Your start of treatment is the first day you receive radiotherapy. Once you are Ready for Care, we work to begin treatment as quickly as possible.
Ready for Care is the earliest date that you and your radiation oncologist agree you’re ready and able to start radiotherapy. This happens once you've:
finished any treatments that need to come first, like chemotherapy or surgery,
completed all required tests and staging, and
given your consent for radiotherapy.
Radiotherapy planning may be done before or after your Ready for Care date, your clinical team will choose what's best for you.

Every radiotherapy plan is tailored to you and your specific needs. To provide an accurate cost estimate, an initial consultation with an Icon doctor is required. This ensures your quote reflects your unique treatment plan.
No Private Health Insurance needed
If you hold a valid Australian Medicare card, you can receive radiotherapy at Icon Cancer Centre without private health insurance. Radiotherapy is typically delivered out-of-hospital, therefore receives a Medicare rebate under the Medical Benefits Schedule (MBS), which will cover most treatment costs.
Out-of-pocket costs
Your final out-of-pocket amount depends on your personal treatment plan and where you sit within the Medicare Safety Nets, which can reduce any gap payments once you reach the threshold.
Fast Medicare rebates
Once your claim is submitted, Medicare rebates are usually paid promptly.

Our Patient Experience Score, also known as the Net Promoter Score (NPS), reflects the loyalty and satisfaction of the people we care for. Collected at the end of treatment, it measures how likely patients are to recommend Icon to their friends and family.
This ongoing feedback helps us continually enhance our services and is a core part of our commitment to delivering exceptional cancer care.
