So when the 61-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2022, it was caught at an early stage.
Mammogram helps detect Lyndy’s breast cancer early
Richmond resident, Lyndy has always kept herself in shape and been vigilant with health screenings.
“I had no symptoms or lumps. It was picked up via a routine mammogram through Breast Screening Victoria,” says Lyndy.
“I am fit and live a healthy lifestyle, but I was on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for my horrible menopause symptoms and knew I would have to go off them and my symptoms would come back. I was more worried about that than the cancer, as I knew it was caught early. I run, so I was annoyed that my cancer treatment would interrupt my running,” adds Lyndy with a laugh.

Under the care of radiation oncologist, Dr Andrew See, Lyndy underwent 15 sessions of radiation therapy at Icon Cancer Centre Richmond in 2023.
“The radiation therapy didn’t really affect me until the last few days and the following four weeks after treatment. It did wipe me out. I felt extremely exhausted and it took a few months to get my energy back,” says Lyndy.
With the cancer caught early thanks to a mammogram, Lyndy and her family are now spreading the message about the importance of cancer screening.
“My 40-year-old daughter went and got a breast screen after my diagnosis, as we didn’t realise she could at 40 years old. She has told all her friends around that age that they can get checked as well,” says Lyndy.
“It just confirms that we have to be proactive with our health. I tell lots of people to just get their mammograms done from 40.”
With her treatment behind her, Lyndy is now back to enjoying her running and walking her beloved dog, Koda.
