A Bribie Island man has undergone prostate stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR) treatment at Icon Cancer Centre North Lakes, bringing world-class cancer care closer to home for patients across Moreton Bay and surrounding regions.
For Antonino Fallone, the availability of SABR treatment at Icon North Lakes meant significantly fewer visits for treatment and less time travelling, allowing him to continue doing the things he enjoys.
Prostate SABR is an advanced form of radiotherapy that delivers highly precise, high-dose treatment to prostate cancer over just five sessions, compared to the many weeks traditionally required for standard radiotherapy.

Antonino (74) was shocked when a routine blood test revealed his PSA level was significantly elevated, prompting his doctor to recommend he see a urologist.
Following discussions about his treatment options, Antonino was referred for radiotherapy rather than surgery to remove his prostate. He chose to undergo prostate SABR at Icon Cancer Centre North Lakes due to the convenience of the treatment.
“The short travelling was very helpful,” Antonino said.
His treatment involved just five sessions, each taking around 10 minutes. Small markers were placed in his body to help precisely target the treatment area, allowing the radiotherapy team to deliver the treatment accurately.
“It was very simple – 10 minutes in and out, with no pain,” Antonino said.
“And the team were very helpful.”
Now having completed his treatment, Antonino said he has experienced some fatigue but is happy and hopeful that his treatment has successfully addressed his cancer.
His experience has also reinforced for him the importance of men taking an active role in their prostate health.
My suggestion to gentlemen out there is to talk with your doctor and make sure your doctor includes your prostate in your full blood test.
It can be very helpful and help you live a happy life.
Antonino is now happily back tending to the many fruit and vegetables he grows in his garden, along with building lego masterpieces.
