Icon founding doctor Dr Paul Eliadis AM recognised with The Wesley Hospital’s 2025 Dr Jon Douglas Award

Icon Cancer Centre congratulates Dr Paul Eliadis AM on being named the 2025 recipient of The Wesley Hospital’s Dr Jon Douglas Award. Presented annually, the award recognises a clinician whose dedication, leadership, and service have made a lasting impact on patient care and the Wesley community.

Dr Eliadis is a highly respected clinical haematologist and medical oncologist, with more than 35 years' experience in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of malignant disease and stem cell transplantation.

In 1988, Dr Eliadis, alongside colleagues Dr Ian Bunce and Dr Trevor Olsen, co-founded Haematology and Oncology Clinics of Australia (HOCA) at The Wesley Hospital in Brisbane, helping pioneer private oncology services in Queensland and establishing the foundations for what is now Icon Cancer Centre.

Dr Eliadis has served at The Wesley Hospital for more than three decades, helping to develop oncology services across inpatient and outpatient care. He is widely recognised for his clinical expertise and compassionate approach, supporting patients and their loved ones through what can often be the most difficult time in their lives.

When nominating Dr Eliadis for the award, colleagues acknowledged his excellent bedside manner, commitment to teaching, and the compassionate, highly professional care he provides to patients.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Eliadis has made significant contributions through education, governance, and philanthropy, including service on the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) and the Quality and Assurance Committee (QAC).

In 2013, he founded The Eliadis Foundation, a private ancillary fund supporting a Professorial Chair of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Queensland (UQ). The foundation also supports Medicine and the Arts, areas that Dr Eliadis supports personally.

We congratulate Dr Eliadis on this well-deserved recognition and thank him for the profound and enduring contribution he has made to patients and their loved ones, and to the wider medical community.
