Dr Byron has experience across metropolitan, regional and remote healthcare settings, with clinical interests in gastrointestinal, genitourinary, brain and spine (CNS), skin and head and neck cancers.

Dr Byron graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2014 and commenced his training at the Royal Hobart Hospital before relocating to New South Wales to continue specialist oncology training. His final year of training, undertaken at Central Coast NSW alongside Dr Wong and Associate Professor Back, provided further experience in the management of central nervous system and upper gastrointestinal malignancies.

In 2025, following the birth of his first child, Dr Byron returned to Tasmania to be closer to family. He remains passionate about research, clinical trials and teaching medical students and junior doctors. He is actively involved in training medical oncology advanced trainees and is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Flinders University and an Adjunct Research Fellow at Charles Darwin University.
