Biography
Dr Rodrigo Diaz is a fellowship-trained radiation oncologist with more than 10 years’ oncology experience across Australia and South America. He provides evidence-based, patient-centred care for a broad range of cancer types and works closely with multidisciplinary teams to support patients throughout consultation, treatment planning, treatment review and follow-up.
Dr Rodrigo Diaz is a radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Maitland. He is fellowship-trained through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists and has more than 10 years’ international oncology experience across South America and Australia. His qualifications include Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists in Radiation Oncology, a Master of Health Management and Administration, and a Doctor of Medicine awarded magna cum laude.
Dr Diaz has worked in busy regional, metropolitan, public and private oncology settings, caring for patients with a broad range of tumour streams. His special clinical interests include stereotactic radiotherapy, including SABR and SRS; lung and other thoracic cancers; gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary cancers; genitourinary cancers, including prostate cancer; breast cancer; skin cancer; and palliative radiotherapy. He also has a strong interest in artificial intelligence and digital innovation in radiation oncology.
Dr Diaz completed an advanced fellowship at Westmead Hospital focused on stereotactic radiotherapy, thoracic malignancies and central nervous system radiotherapy. He has extensive experience in contemporary radiotherapy techniques, including IMRT, VMAT, SRS and SABR. Across his career, Dr Diaz has contributed to multidisciplinary care, contouring, treatment planning, peer review, on-treatment review and follow-up. He also has experience in teaching junior doctors and medical students, and has contributed to research, quality assurance and departmental improvement initiatives.
