Biography
I provide patient-centred care that considers each person’s individual needs and circumstances. I place a strong emphasis on clear communication and work closely with patients and their families to support them throughout treatment.
Dr Katie Jessen is a clinical haematologist at Icon Cancer Centre Adelaide with dual fellowship training in clinical and laboratory haematology. She completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at Flinders University in 2011, following earlier completion of a Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours at the University of Otago.
Dr Jessen undertook her specialist physician and haematology training across South Australia, including roles at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She also completed extensive laboratory haematology training with SA Pathology, gaining experience in blood film reporting, bone marrow examination, transfusion medicine and diagnostic haematology.
She has held advanced fellowship roles in clinical haematology and multiple myeloma at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and has experience managing a broad range of malignant and non-malignant blood disorders. In parallel with her haematology training, Dr Jessen is undertaking advanced training in palliative medicine, working across inpatient, outpatient and community-based settings.
Dr Jessen is actively involved in research, audit and education, with presentations at national scientific meetings and contributions to peer-reviewed publications. She has a strong interest in multidisciplinary collaboration and delivering high-quality care informed by the latest evidence.
