Biography

Dr Helen McManus is a Specialist Palliative Medicine Physician dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centred care for patients with cancer and advanced illness. With extensive experience across hospital, hospice, community and outpatient settings, she works closely within multidisciplinary teams to optimise symptom control, support patients and families, and guide care planning throughout the cancer journey.

 

Dr Helen McManus is a Specialist Palliative Medicine Physician who completed her medical degree (MBBS Hons) at the University of Melbourne and went on to achieve Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine in 2025.

 

Dr McManus has broad clinical experience across oncology, haematology, psychiatry and general practice, providing a strong foundation in managing complex cancer presentations and treatment-related toxicities. Her advanced training included roles at leading institutions such as Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Cabrini Hospital, and Austin Health, where she managed complex symptoms including cancer pain and supported patients through transitions in care.

 

She has worked extensively in both inpatient and community palliative care settings in Victoria and Tasmania, where she developed expertise in delivering holistic, patient-centred care. Dr McManus is also actively involved in teaching medical students and junior doctors and has contributed to clinical research in palliative care.

 

Dr McManus accepts referrals for palliative care for patients with all cancer types. She is committed to supporting patients and families through advanced care planning, symptom optimisation and ensuring care aligns with patient goals, with a strong focus on dignity, communication and quality of life.
