Biography
I believe that understanding your genetic information can be both empowering and deeply personal. My approach is centred on compassion, clarity and respect, ensuring every person feels heard, supported, and confident in their choices ahead. I’m passionate about making complex information accessible and creating a space where patients and their loved ones feel informed and reassured.
Dr Helen Mar Fan is a clinical geneticist at Icon Cancer Centre Wesley, with more than 20 years’ experience in oncology and cancer genetics. She is dual trained in medical oncology and clinical genetics, with a particular interest in hereditary cancer syndromes, clinical genomics and personalised risk assessment.
Dr Mar Fan completed her medical degree with First Class Honours at the University of Queensland and holds a Master of Medical Science. She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in both Medical Oncology and Clinical Genetics.
She has previously served as Senior Medical Officer in Cancer Genetics at Genetic Health Queensland, where she contributed to national working groups, genomic education initiatives and chaired the eviQ Adult Cancer Genetics Reference Committee. She remains an active contributor to eviQ and PanelApp Australia, has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and holds senior academic teaching roles at the University of Queensland.
