Dr Alexandra Powell is passionate about providing high quality, patient-centred cancer care. She places a strong emphasis on clear communication and takes time to ensure patients and their loved ones feel informed and supported throughout treatment.
Biography
Dr Alexandra Powell is a radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Concord. She was awarded her Doctor of Medicine at the University of New South in 2017. She undertook specialist training in radiation oncology at Liverpool Hospital in Southwest Sydney. She has experience across a wide range of tumour types and radiotherapy techniques, including stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). She has also completed locum appointments in palliative care, haematology, geriatric and respiratory medicine and is dedicated to holistic care for patient’s complex needs.
Dr Powell has published in peer-reviewed international journals and received the 2023 Varian Prize at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) Annual Scientific Meeting. Her current research focuses on geriatric oncology, including models of care that better support older people receiving cancer treatment. Dr Powell contributes to clinical leadership and education through multidisciplinary meeting leadership, peer review and audit activity, supervision of junior doctors and teaching university medical students.
Her clinical experience covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies with a special interest in breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, haematological malignancy, lung cancer and palliative care.
