Biography

Dr Abhishek Joshi is an experienced medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Townsville. In 1997 he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at BJ Medical College and Research Institute in Ahmedabad, India. He subsequently completed his Doctor of Medicine MD (Internal Medicine) in 2002 and Doctorate in Medicine DM (Medical Oncology) in 2006. Dr Joshi obtained his European Certification in Medical Oncology (ECMO) in 2006 at Istanbul. He established a medical oncology and bone marrow transplant unit in northern Punjab and successfully conducted the first ever private sector bone marrow transplant for Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in India. In 2006, he began working in Australia at the Cairns Base Hospital and became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2010.

In addition to his practice at Icon, Dr Joshi is also a medical oncology advanced trainee supervisor at Townsville Cancer Centre. He is actively involved with undergraduate medical education as senior lecturer and lead of medical oncology at James Cook University. Dr Joshi is an ESMO award winner for papers in chronic myeloid leukaemia (2005) and lung cancer (2006). He currently sits on the steering committee for Indigenous Respiratory Outreach Care Programme (IROC) as well as on the Queensland Co-operative Oncology Group’s (QCOG) clinical trials committee.

His clinical experience covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies with a special interest in breast cancer survivorship, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer and melanoma. Dr Joshi routinely uses the tele-oncology model of chemotherapy service delivery.
