Biography
A/Prof Simon Durrant is a clinical haematologist and medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Wesley, Icon Cancer Centre Chermside and Icon Cancer Centre North Lakes. He also consults at hospitals across Brisbane, as well as Bundaberg and Maryborough. A/Prof Durrant is also the director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the Royal Brisbane Hospital and is an associate professor with the University of Queensland. A/Prof Durrant trained at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School at the University of London and spent most of his career up until 1991 as a haematologist in hospitals across the UK.
His appointment in Australia has seen him become one of the most respected and successful haematologists in the country. A/Prof Durrant is an extremely accomplished researcher and has lectured extensively across his entire career. He has also had extensive committee appointments including Medical Adviser U.K. Thalassaemia Society, Alternative Donor and Stem Cell Sources Committee of the International Bone Marrow Transplant Registry, Scientific Advisory Committee Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry, Australian Bone Marrow Transplant Research Group, Australian Leukaemia Study Group and is on the University of Queensland’s Medical Curriculum Sub-Committees for both Basic Medical Science and Haematology.
A/Prof Durrant is experienced in caring for a wide range of cancers and malignant and non-malignant blood disorders with particular interest in leukaemia, lymphoma and immunohaematology.
