Biography
Dr Shane Bleakley is an experienced clinical haematologist at Icon Cancer Centre Southport. In 1998 he completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Honours Class II Division 1) at the University of New South Wales. Dr Bleakley subsequently completed his internship at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney and undertook his junior and senior resident years at St Vincent’s and Bankstown Hospitals, rotating through multiple medical terms.
In 2003 he commenced basic physician training at St Vincent’s Hospital and completed advanced haematology training at Liverpool Hospital, Sydney and Mater Hospital after passing his part 1 FRACP exams. At Liverpool Hospital, he gained valuable experience in managing aspects of both malignant and non-malignant blood disorders. During 2006 to 2008, Dr Bleakley undertook two years of laboratory training at the Mater Hospital, Brisbane and was involved in the running of the laboratory. In 2008, Dr Bleakley gained transplant experience during his role as bone marrow transplant registrar at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital. He completed advanced pathology training at Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology (SNP), and has worked in private practice on the Gold Coast since 2009.
Dr Bleakley is experienced in caring for a wide range of malignant and non-malignant blood disorders including myelodysplasia, myeloproliferative neoplasms, apheresis, lymphoma, thrombosis and leukaemia. He also consults at Gold Coast Private Hospital, Pindara Private Hospital and John Flynn Private Hospital.
