Biography
Dr Mohammed Islam is an experienced medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Southport. In 1992 Dr Islam completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at Bangladesh’s University of Dhaka and became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2010. Prior to commencing his advanced training, Dr Islam practiced medicine for over twelve years across three different countries and speaks several languages. Dr Islam also has valuable cross-cultural communication skills and insights into diverse medical systems. He completed specialist medical oncology training at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital and Gold Coast Hospitals where he gained extensive experience in the management and treatment of a broad range of solid tumour malignancies.
Dr Islam maintains an active interest in teaching and clinical research. He is principal investigator and sub-investigator on several clinical trials at Icon Cancer Centre Southport and Gold Coast University Hospital and has authored multiple publications. Prior to establishing his practice on the Gold Coast, Dr Islam was a medical oncology staff specialist at Cairns Base Hospital and a senior lecturer at James Cook University.
In addition to his private practice at Icon Cancer Centre, he serves as medical oncology staff specialist at Gold Coast University Hospital. Dr Islam is a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University, Gold Coast, and is also a visiting specialist at John Flynn Private Hospital, Pindara Private Hospital and Gold Coast Private Hospital. His clinical expertise covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies with a special interest in colorectal cancer, head and neck cancer, lung cancer and urogenital cancers.
