Biography
A/Prof Michael Slancar is an experienced medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Southport. He commenced specialist medical oncology training in Europe under the auspices of European School of Oncology and completed training in Sydney, Australia. A/Prof Slancar worked as a medical oncologist at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney until he moved to Queensland in 1998 to establish Gold Coast Oncology, a co-ordinated cancer care practice in Southport. He also founded Gold Coast Oncology Research Pty Ltd, a private organisation specialising in international clinical trials. In 2008, he transitioned his established practice and research centre to HOCA and contributed to the establishment of HOCA Gold Coast at Southport – now known as Icon Cancer Centre Southport – the first truly comprehensive cancer centre in the region.
A/Prof Slancar’s clinical experience covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies, with special interest in breast cancer, gynaecological malignancies, colorectal cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer. His practice offers comprehensive management of any malignancy at any stage of the disease from initial diagnosis through to palliative care. A/Prof Slancar has a keen interest in clinical trials and is an internationally recognised principal investigator. He continues to participate on a number of international studies in the treatment of solid tumors and has access to a number of clinical studies available for treatment of major malignancies. A/Prof Slancar also specialises in personalised medicine, cooperating with a number of international groups working on the best individualised care for cancer patients, based on precise tumour profiling.
