Dr Joe Chang is committed to delivering evidence-based and patient-centred cancer care. His honest and engaging approach to communication with his patients and their loved ones ensures they are well-informed throughout treatment and beyond.

Biography

Dr Joe Chang is an experienced radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Wahroonga and Icon Cancer Centre Gosford. He also holds appointments at Liverpool and Campbelltown Hospitals. In 2005 Dr Chang completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Otago and undertook specialist radiation oncology training at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia. In 2015 he also completed his PhD on functional and molecular imaging in prostate and head and neck cancer radiation therapy. Dr Chang subsequently undertook a one-year clinical fellowship in stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR) and intracranial stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada.

He enjoys a mixture of clinical work, contributing to leading national and international publications and conferences and attending regular multidisciplinary meetings with his colleagues and medical community. In addition to his role at Icon, Dr Chang chairs the Sydney SABR Consortium and Liverpool Hospital Central Nervous System Tumour Multidisciplinary Meeting. He is a member of several leading cancer trial groups and has been awarded a number of prizes for his clinical research including the ESTRO Young Scientist Award (2009), Elekta Award (2010), Varian Prizes (2010, 2012), and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) Bourne and Langlands Prize (2015).

Dr Chang can converse in English and Mandarin, and looks forward to supporting patients in a language they are familiar with. His clinical experience covers a broad range of malignancies with a special interest in genitourinary cancer, brain and spinal (CNS) cancer, lung cancer, skin cancer, sarcoma and stereotactic radiation therapy.
