Biography
Dr Ian Byard is an experienced medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Hobart. In 1988, he completed a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Tasmania and undertook his specialist oncology training at Royal Hobart and Royal Perth Hospitals. Dr Byard became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 1996 and held medical oncology appointments at Royal Hobart, North West Regional and Launceston General Hospitals in Tasmania.
He is a strong advocate for local research and clinical trials, with principal investigator experience in colorectal, melanoma and breast cancer studies. Dr Byard is actively involved in multidisciplinary care and medical education, regularly participating in fortnightly journal clubs and registrar advanced training. He also provides consultation and treatment services at Royal Hobart Hospital. His clinical experience covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies with a special interest in gastrointestinal cancer, breast cancer, urological cancers, melanoma, skin cancer and lung cancer.
