Dr Hock-Choong Lai graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Melbourne in 1989 before becoming a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australia in 1999.
After completing his haematology training in New South Wales, Dr Lai then obtained his Certificate of Specialist Accreditation in Haematology in Singapore in 2000. He then spent three years working in Singapore, first as an associate consultant in the Health Sciences Authority’s Centre for Transfusion Medicine before becoming their head of clinical services.
Following this, he held visiting consultant positions at Singapore General Hospital and Singapore’s Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
Dr Lai moved back to Australia in 2005 as consultant haematologist at Townsville Hospital’s Cancer Care Centre. He practices at Icon Cancer Centre Townsville and provides an outreach haematology service in Mackay.
