Dr Michael Collins is a detail-oriented, confident radiation oncologist who is dedicated to delivering exceptional cancer care and improving the wellbeing of his patients. He brings a calm, confident approach to his practice, effectively communicating with his patients and their loved ones using plan language to ensure they are well-informed throughout their journey.
Dr Michael Collins is a consultant radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Mackay. He also practices at Townsville Cancer Centre. Dr Collins completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland in 1982. He traveled abroad and studied in London at Royal Marsden Hospital.
Dr Collins completed the majority of his training at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, Western Australia. He became a consultant radiation oncologist settling in Townsville in 1997. He is passionate about providing care to rural North Queensland and has held clinics for Mackay patients since 1997. He is thrilled he can now provide comprehensive radiation oncology care to the local community via Icon Cancer Centre.
He is actively involved in clinical trials and is an investigator in TROG trials with focus on melanoma and head and neck cancer research. He also teaches medical students from James Cook University and is on the Executive of the Australian and New Zealand Head and Neck Cancer Society.
Dr Collins has particular interests in head and neck, skin and lung cancers, sarcoma and central nervous system tumours. He will also be working to establish breast cancer radiation treatment in Mackay.
