Biography
Dr Keith Horwood is a medical oncologist based at Icon Cancer Centre Southport. Dr Horwood also consults at Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane in the Icon consult rooms.
Dr Horwood’s main interests are thoracic (lung cancer and mesothelioma), women’s (breast and ovarian cancer) oncology, and upper gastrointestinal cancer.
Dr Horwood graduated from the University of Queensland with First Class Honours in 1989, and during his early years as a doctor realised oncology was the specialty he was most passionate about. He chose oncology for the academic challenge but mostly because he finds helping patients, often in trying and dramatic circumstances, very rewarding and satisfying.
With a strong interest in clinical research, Dr Horwood is an active member on several advisory boards and clinical trial group committees including the Australasian Lung Cancer Trials Group (ALTG) and American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
After completing his specialist qualification in medical oncology in 1997, Dr Horwood undertook a clinical fellowship in the USA and then returned to Brisbane as a specialist at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Dr Horwood has been in private practice since 2001 and joined Icon in 2014.
