Icon Cancer Centre is proud to expand its footprint in South Australia with a new radiation oncology service in North Adelaide.

The centre will be conveniently located at the landmark $300 million Eighty Eight O’Connell development, that is not only delivering luxurious residential apartments but also emerging as Adelaide’s newest health and wellness destination, with services curated to support every aspect of community wellbeing. The Icon Cancer Centre will deliver cutting-edge cancer treatment using state-of-the-art equipment, improving access for patients, particularly in the central, western and north-western suburbs.

Icon Radiation Oncologist and highly respected South Australian clinician, A/Prof Michael Penniment (AM) said the centre is set to transform how cancer care is delivered in the state.

“This is a major milestone for cancer care in South Australia,” A/Prof Penniment said.

As an oncologist, I have seen firsthand the profound impact that advanced technologies have on patient outcomes. This new centre brings state of the art technology and comprehensive care, ensuring patients receive the best possible treatment and support as close to home as possible.”

The latest treatments in the heart of North Adelaide
Icon Cancer Centre North Adelaide will include a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator (linac), offering advanced radiation techniques including stereotactic radiation therapy and HyperArc – a highly precise treatment for secondary brain tumours. Breast cancer patients will benefit from Varian’s IDENTIFY Surface Guidance System – a tattoo-free alternative to traditional radiation marking. This real-time tracking system monitors patients’ position and breathing, helping to ensure accuracy and improving comfort throughout treatment.

“HyperArc is one of the most advanced technologies available for treating brain and central nervous system tumours, greatly reducing side effects to more traditional whole brain treatments and better quality of life,” A/Prof Penniment said.

Investing in South Australian healthcare
Icon Cancer Centre North Adelaide is part of Icon Group’s broader $50 million investment into South Australia, which was first announced in 2021. Since then, Icon has delivered a new cancer centre in Noarlunga, expanded Windsor Gardens with a second linear accelerator and a superficial x-ray machine for skin cancers, expanded access to a wide range of clinical trials and delivered a Slade Health TGA licensed facility in Woodville delivering more than 300,000 chemotherapy infusions annually across the state. The North Adelaide centre will be Icon Group’s fourth treatment centre in the state, further strengthening local access to cancer care.

In addition to advanced radiation therapy, patients will benefit from integrated support services within the precinct, including pharmacy, radiology, physiotherapy, dietetics and speech pathology, alongside world class wellbeing services.

“Bringing these services together provides a better patient experience and less stress for patients and their families,” A/Prof Penniment said.

The centre will be led by an experienced and highly regarded team of radiation oncologists including, A/Prof Michael Penniment, A/Prof Peter Gorayski, A/Prof Hien Le, Dr Scott Carruthers, Dr Braden Higgs, Dr Vincent Pow and Dr Hui Tee.

As part of the highly anticipated Eighty Eight O’Connell precinct, the centre is conveniently located onsite with easy access to retail, dining, wellness and community amenities including a range of complimentary allied healthcare providers. Free onsite parking will also be available for patients.
