Dr Shahid Mahmood is a strong advocate for for clinical trials and local research, ensuring that his patients have access to the latest treatment options.
Biography
Dr Shahid Mahmood is a medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Canberra. In 2006, Dr Mahmood obtained a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in Pakistan and undertook specialist medical oncology training in Canberra, Australia. He subsequently completed a one-year medical oncology fellowship at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and was awarded fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2023.
With a passion for research, clinical trials and medical education, Dr Mahmood has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and recently presented one of his publications at the 2022 Japanese Society of Medical Oncology Annual Meeting. He maintains affiliations with national and international research institutions including the Australian Gastro-intestinal Trials Group (AGITG), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA). His past appointments include conjoint associate lecturer at the University of New South Wales and medical student examiner at The Australian National University.
Dr Mahmood speaks fluent English, Punjabi and Urdu, and looks forward to caring for patients and their loved ones in their preferred language. His clinical experience covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies with a special interest in gastrointestinal cancer, lung cancer, genitourinary cancer, breast cancer and melanoma.
