Biography
Dr Riyaad Ahmed is an experienced radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Cairns. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees at the University of Natal, South Africa in 1998, followed by a Fellowship in Clinical and Radiation Oncology through the College of Medicines of South Africa in 2006. In 2019, he relocated to Australia with his family and obtained Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.
Dr Ahmed has held multiple senior positions throughout his career, including serving as a senior specialist in several academic hospitals in Durban. He then spent over a decade as a senior associate in private practice at the Durban Oncology Centre. Since moving to Australia, he has worked across Queensland and New South Wales, including Cairns, the Gold Coast and Darwin.
Dr Ahmed is experienced in advanced radiation therapy techniques including stereotactic radiotherapy (SRS, SABR, SBRT), Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH), Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Radiotherapy (VMAT) and Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT). He is actively involved in MDTs and has chaired MDTs in head and neck and high-risk skin cancers.
