Biography
Dr Rainer Fröhling is an experienced radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Rockingham. He attended the University of Pretoria where he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and completed specialist oncology training at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. He is a fellow of both the South African College of Radiation Oncologists and Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR).
Prior to establishing his practice in Australia, Dr Fröhling gained extensive radiation oncology experience in South Africa where he worked as a radiation oncologist and clinical research physician at GVI Oncology (now Cancercare) and Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital until 2019. He was Director of Dr R. Fröhling and Partners Inc., located within Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital, leading a private oncology practice alongside two radiation oncologists.
He maintains a strong interest in medical education and research, with previous experience as principal and sub-investigator of phase III and phase IV clinical trials. He also held an integral role in teaching and supervising University of Cape Town registrars at Groote Schuur Hospital. Dr Fröhling has extensive experience in utilising external beam radiotherapy including stereotactic radiation therapy, volumetric modulated arc radiation therapy (VMAT), intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) techniques. His clinical experience covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies, with special interest in breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer and skin cancers.
