Icon Cancer Centre Gosford marks three decades of world-class care
Opening its doors in August 1995 as Radiation Oncology Institute, the centre was the first facility to provide radiation therapy services in the region. Since then, Icon Cancer Centre Gosford has seen evolutions in services and the introduction of the latest technologies continuing to support thousands of patients and their families with comprehensive, compassionate care close to home.
For three decades, the team at Icon Gosford has continually evolved its services to meet the needs of the community, embracing new technologies and expanding support services.
From manually loaded film cassettes for medical imaging in a darkroom in 1995 to today’s most advanced cancer treatments, including the installation of new radiation therapy treatment machines, planning systems and techniques, and attracting experienced radiation oncologists, the centre has continued to advance cancer care while keeping its focus firmly on delivering personalised patient care.
Patients have access to the latest in radiation therapy treatments, as well as lymphoedema screening and support, allied health services, survivorship programs and the recent introduction of prostate cancer nurses, all designed to deliver truly holistic care.
CEO of Icon Cancer Centre Australia & New Zealand, Paul Fenton is proud of the Gosford centre’s milestone and contribution to the community.

“The team has saved patients thousands of kilometres in travel, enabling them to access timely care within their own community.
“Local care allows people to continue with their daily lives and be surrounded by loved ones; something we know makes a huge difference during a cancer diagnosis.”
Local resident Garry O’Sullivan, who underwent 39 days of radiation therapy for prostate cancer last year, shared how much it meant to receive treatment at Icon Gosford.
“It was great to see the same friendly faces every day. Even on tough days, the team made you feel seen and supported. They were fantastic, professional, and gave you real confidence. I really enjoyed Fun Fridays – we’d all get dressed up and it meant another week was complete,” said Garry.
Garry recently celebrated his end of treatment with a trip to Perth to visit his daughter, a meaningful milestone made possible by the care he received.
The exceptional care is underpinned by a highly experienced multidisciplinary team – an ever-growing cohort of leading doctors, many of whom have been at the centre for over 20 years – evidence of the team’s culture and commitment to local care.
Looking ahead, Icon Gosford is preparing for an exciting new chapter with a planned relocation to the $75 million Gosford Health Hub in 2027.
This major investment will allow the centre to continue meeting the growing needs of the Central Coast community for decades to come.
