Icon Cancer Centre has joined Riverlee as a major tenant at the $1 billion New Epping Health Hub (NEHH), significantly enhancing cancer care services in Melbourne's northern suburbs.

Icon Cancer Centre has signed a 15-year tenancy agreement for a 775-square-metre space in the New Epping Medical Centre within the NEHH.

The Icon centre at New Epping will deliver the latest in radiation therapy technology and techniques for people living in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

In 2022, 35,656 Victorians were diagnosed with cancer. With a growing and ageing population, coupled with the impacts of late diagnoses through COVID, this number is set to increase. Around 50 percent of all patients diagnosed with cancer require radiation oncology treatment. This new centre will increase access to vital cancer treatment in the region operating within an interconnected healthcare ecosystem.

The addition of Icon Cancer Centre to the NEHH further solidifies the precinct’s position as the largest integrated health cluster in Melbourne’s north. Spanning a combined 20 hectares, the ecosystem encompasses the Northern Public Hospital and the new $133 million Northern Private Hospital, operated by Ramsay Health Care, which opened in February this year.

Surrounded by green spaces, and a revitalised central green spine, both patients and healthcare workers will benefit from a nature-based, wellness-focused environment, promoting health, healing and innovation.

Icon’s commitment in the New Epping Health Hub is expected to act as a catalyst for the growth of the broader precinct, attracting other healthcare experts and researchers, supporting the overall vision to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing to create a hub of medical excellence.

Riverlee Development Director, David Lee, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Icon Cancer Centre as a major occupier within the New Epping Health Hub. Their presence not only brings world-class cancer care services to the region but also enhances our vision of creating a comprehensive, integrated health precinct. Icon’s decision to join us marks a pivotal milestone in the growth of the New Epping Health Hub as a centre for healthcare excellence that will transform health outcomes and build a stronger, healthier future for Melbourne’s north.”

Icon Cancer Centre Australia and New Zealand CEO, Paul Fenton, said: “We are excited to join the New Epping Health Hub. Icon will work alongside our onsite hospital partners and complement existing high quality cancer services, ultimately providing patients with a wide range of integrated healthcare services in one location. The vision for the precinct aligns with our track record of providing accessible, world-leading cancer care closer to home for communities across Australia.”

Northern Private Hospital CEO, Shaune Gillespie, said: “Icon’s centre will further strengthen access to world class private health care in Melbourne’s fast-growing northern suburbs, complementing the services at the Northern Private Hospital and enhancing our shared commitment to delivering patient-centred care in an environment that prioritises comfort and wellbeing.”

The New Epping Health Hub, which forms part of the wider $2 billion New Epping mixed-use community, is set to offer 80,000 sqm of medical floorspace upon completion. The addition of Icon Cancer Centre within the Medical Centre contributes to the precinct’s goal of providing vital infrastructure and top-tier medical facilities to support the growing healthcare needs of Melbourne’s north and drive significant economic growth and employment opportunities in the region.

As the New Epping Health Hub continues to evolve, Riverlee remains committed to its founding principles of health, healing, and innovation, setting a new standard for healthcare in Australia.
